5 Brands I Love That You Probably Haven't Heard Of!
After a few years of working in the fashion industry and meeting some incredibly powerful female designers and entrepreneurs, I've collected quite a few brands that I absolutely love but that are less well known. Here's my love list!
1. Ingrid Bruha
- I met the incredible Ingrid Bruha, who is the brains for the brand that bears her name, at a trunk show I went to at her Chelsea loft. She is intensely French and fashionable with an accent that makes me want to live in Paris for all eternity. Her handbags are made entirely out of recycled products such as pieces of vintage fur coats, this means they are completely sustainable and each one is unique. Seriously, no two bags are exactly the same so you can be guaranteed no one else will have one! They've been my obsession for, well, months now. I mean how cool is this bag??

2. Kelly Rutherford Jewelry
- You may know Kelly Rutherford from her role as Lily van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl. I know her as a friend and amazing jewelry designer, that's right jewelry, she can do it all! Kelly's line consists of Stars, Moons and Hearts in the form of studs, drop earrings, necklaces and bracelets. All pieces are solid 14 karat gold and are made in the United States. The simplicity of her jewelry allows it to be worn for any occasion while also providing high quality at a very reasonable price! I wear my moon necklace and studs EVERY day! The online shop will be open soon, until then just enjoy this picture of the collection:
3. MagrÌ
-This is another amazing handbag line, founded by Isabella Pia Ayoub who is so gorgeous and kind it's almost unbearable. Isabella started her career as an architect and eventually channeled that talent and knowledge into her handbags. These works of art were born from Isabella's desire to offer a sensation of Romanticism and vintage glamor, with a strong and modern character. Her "attention to the form, function, construction and narrative of the design of her bags are the result of her strong artistic sensibility". All handbags are made in Italy where the business is headquartered, guaranteeing you incredible quality and attention to detail. Here is one of my favorites: the Engadine bag from "The St. Barths" collection.
4. My Beach Side
- I came across this brand at yet another trunk show. Spearheaded by entrepreneur Gamze Ates, My Beach Side offers hand knit beach accessories and clothing. The brand works with established NGO's to help provide Syrian Refugees and Turkish women with opportunities to better their lives, in this case as vendors and creators of the My Beach Side products. Each worker has the opportunity to name her own pay which is always guaranteed and allows opportunities for a better life while also building self esteem. The project is targeted toward Gamze's home land of Turkey where only 30% of women are employed outside of the home. Supporting this brand and its mission is a no brainer, head on over to their website to shop for your next beach vacation!
5. Breaking the Wool
- This brand is so cute! Started by another gorgeous French woman named Sophie, Breaking the Wool not only sells hand knit pieces (their scarves are to die for) but they also sell "do it yourself" packages with the proper yarn, tools and directions AND they offer workshops around New York City where you can learn different knitting patterns from the founder herself! Whether you are looking for a warm scarf for the end of winter or cute sweaters for your kids, Breaking the Wool has it all! Check out their website linked above or go visit their trunk show at Maman- Soho. Open every day from 9am to 6pm, 237 Centre Street!
