Oh NYFW, How You've Changed.

So as NYFW came to a close last week the industry was left to think. We were left to think about past fashion weeks and the way that this most recent one compared when it comes to status, art, creativity, chaos, and most of all, success. I've worked in the industry for almost three years now, being thrown into the insanity that is NYFW, working 17 hour days with everyone from Victorias Secret Models to Patricia Field to IMG and more, its intense. But what we have all seen, even myself in the last three years, is a shift in the way NYFW looks. It used to be an event dominated by A-list celebrities that was so exclusive many could only dream of getting a seat for a show. Now, while it is still exclusive, that exclusivity is reserved more for social media influencers and bloggers than anyone else because the fashion industry itself has changed and whats working right now when it comes to productivity and exposure is social media. While many see this as a negative change, which has lead some designers to pull out of fashion week altogether, it has also allowed a more creative side of fashion to emerge. We are shying away from the strictness of a runway show and are leaning towards music events that feature the clothes, or presentations with an underlying message about society. Fashion is, now more than ever, more about a message and less about who will realistically wear the clothes. Vanity Fair's, Olivia Aylmer dove into the topic and created what is a perfect explanation of the ever changing vibe of NYFW...
